About Me

Welcome!  I am glad to have the opportunity to tell you a little about myself.

My name is Charis Bradley and I teach Piano and Voice.  Graduating from college in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, I majored in Vocal Music and minored in Piano.  I started teaching almost immediately, privately one on one.  As my family grew, I gave it up for a few years but was able to return once my children started school.  I have always wanted my own studio and now that dream as come to pass.

I am fortunate now to have all of the resources at my disposal that I and the student might need.  It is all about the learning environment so by utilizing the studio the distractions are minimal and again all of my resources are at our disposal.  It is my belief that working from your home is great if there are no distractions for the student, but that isn't always the case.

  • How do I approach a young student?  There is never a time when I don't encourage a parent to sit in the room with me and especially at the younger ages.  I need an advocate at home that can read and help with some reinforcement of the concepts.
  • What if a parent doesn't have a clue about the piano?  I give away a free lesson with each paid lesson to the parent who is in the room.
  • How is the music chosen?   I pick the one method series that I have found to be most effective.  Am I totally happy with it?  No, because I feel like it lacks something, but it will get the job done with some supplemental material.
  • Do I allow the student to bring material to me?  Yes, I encourage the student to bring music that they have heard and want to learn.  We may have to look for an arrangement that is geared more for their level.
